Augusta Woman Hits Police Cruisers After Traffic Stop Turns into Pursuit

AUGUSTA, Maine – A local woman is facing multiple charges, including operating under the influence (OUI), after allegedly crashing into several police cruisers over the weekend.

According to a city spokesperson, an officer observed Selena Smith driving erratically on Main Mall Road Friday night. The officer suspected Smith was impaired and initiated a traffic stop, pulling her over.

The spokesperson stated that instead of complying, Smith took off and struck a police cruiser. She then hit a second cruiser in the Dollar Tree parking lot. Officers were inside both vehicles at the time of the collisions, but no injuries were reported.

In total, three police cruisers were damaged in the incident. A city spokesperson confirmed that two of the cruisers cannot be used until repairs are made.

Smith, an Augusta resident, now faces charges including OUI in connection with the weekend events.
