Authorities say a teenager was shot and killed, and six other people were injured, following an outbreak of gunfire this afternoon at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Police confirmed that the violence began as an argument between two groups inside the food court, and that at least some of the victims were bystanders not involved in the initial dispute.
Officials have taken five people into custody as the investigation continues. A police spokesperson stated that the latest number of suspects detained is five, and that the confrontation appears to have escalated quickly in the crowded mall.
Sources told a local CBS affiliate that the deceased is a teenager. The six injured individuals are receiving medical treatment; their conditions have not been immediately released. Police have not yet disclosed what sparked the argument between the two groups.
