Officer’s Vest Stops Bullet After Traffic Stop Turns Deadly in Adairsville

An officer is recovering after being shot overnight in Adairsville during an attempted traffic stop that left the suspect dead, according to authorities.

The incident occurred just after 10 a.m. near Joe Frank Harris Parkway, when an officer tried to pull over an SUV for speeding. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) stated that 26-year-old Saeed Ahmed Reed opened fire, striking the officer in the chest. Officials confirmed that the officer’s bulletproof vest may have saved his life.

Reed then attempted to shoot the officer a second time, authorities said. The officer returned fire, eventually killing Reed. The wounded officer was treated at a hospital and subsequently released.

The GBI noted that three other adults and a child were inside the SUV at the time of the shooting, but none of them were injured.
