Buffalo City District Commissioner, Major General Christopher Wright, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 29-year-old Buhle Zenzile by the Bhisho High Court on 29 April 2026.
Zenzile was found guilty of murder and defeating the ends of justice following the killing of his girlfriend. The victim’s disappearance was reported in April 2025.
According to police reports, the victim’s cousin filed a missing person report at Bhisho police station, stating that she had last been seen with her boyfriend in 2024 and had never returned home. An initial search of the area yielded no results.
Detective work led to the arrest of two brothers in Tyutyu Location. Following investigations, the suspects confessed and pointed out two crime scenes: the location where the victim was murdered, and a shallow grave near a river where her remains were buried.
The exhumation was conducted by the Provincial Task Team CSI, led by Captain Gqotile, in collaboration with the Pretoria team, Captains Viljoen and Van der Westhuisen. Forensic processes positively identified the human remains. Witnesses testified against the accused, strengthening the State’s case.
Detective Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mqobongo, and Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Gilisile, were commended for their pursuit of justice.
The Bhisho High Court sentenced Buhle Zenzile to 30 years’ imprisonment: 25 years for murder and 5 years for defeating the ends of justice, to run concurrently.
