On Sunday, 10 May 2026, at approximately 17:30, members of the South African Police Service stationed at SAPS Cullinan conducted crime prevention patrols when they observed a suspicious male walking alongside the railway tracks in Cullinan.
The suspect was stopped and searched. He was found in possession of a pistol loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
During questioning, the suspect alleged that he was employed as a security officer. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was not registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
Police members then proceeded to the suspect’s residence, where a second male was found on the premises. A search of the residence was conducted, and a second firearm, together with 13 rounds of ammunition, was recovered. The ammunition recovered did not correspond with the calibre of the firearms confiscated.
The suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the possession of the firearms and ammunition and were subsequently arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they may have been used in the commission of other crimes.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 May 2026.
