Western Cape police have launched an investigation into four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder following a shooting in Wesbank on the evening of Saturday, 16 May 2026.
At approximately 20:00, South African Police Service (SAPS) members responded to a complaint on Strandveld Street, Wesbank. At the scene, they found three adult females and one adult male, aged between 32 and 39, with gunshot wounds. Medical personnel declared all four victims deceased on the scene.
A 7-year-old child who was also injured in the incident was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting may be gang-related.
The Serious and Violent Crime Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests have been made at this stage.
