Police in Elukwatini arrested a foreign national on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at approximately 12:00, in Nhlazatje. The suspect faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and contravention of the Immigration Act.
According to police reports, officers received information about a suspect allegedly in possession of a firearm in the area. Acting on the intelligence, authorities proceeded to the scene and located the individual.
During a search, police recovered a black pistol with a brown handle. The firearm’s serial number had allegedly been filed off. When questioned, the suspect reportedly stated that he used the weapon for protection while engaging in illegal mining activities.
The suspect was arrested immediately and charged. Police are working with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to verify the suspect’s immigration status.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
