Three Arrested Following Fatal Shooting of Rustenburg Taxi Boss

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old taxi boss at the Rustenburg Taxi Rank, police said.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Mounted Unit in Rustenburg apprehended the trio shortly after the incident.

According to police reports, a Mounted Unit member who was conducting observation duties at the taxi rank on an unrelated matter and was in close proximity to the murder scene noticed two suspects fleeing after the shooting. The two individuals allegedly entered a white Suzuki vehicle, where a 21-year-old driver was waiting for them.

The suspects drove off but were intercepted and arrested at the corner of Oliver Tambo and Bosch Streets in Rustenburg by Mounted Unit members coordinated by their colleague.

The three suspects, aged 28, 21, and 21, were immediately taken into custody. Two pistols with ammunition, believed to have been used in the crime, were recovered and handed over for forensic processing.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was allegedly sitting inside his vehicle and conversing with two other occupants when he was shot multiple times. The two occupants were not injured.

The trio are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
