Police Arrest Two Suspects in Drug Bust During Operation Shanela II

Members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit arrested two suspects and seized illicit drugs and cash during intelligence-led operations conducted under Operation Shanela II in Bloemfontein this morning.

Between 08:00 and 09:00 on Saturday, 30 May 2026, police teams executed J51 search warrants in the Navalsig and Heidedal areas as part of routine crime-combatting activities.

In Navalsig, officers tactically approached a targeted residence following actionable intelligence. A search of the premises led to the apprehension of a 45-year-old foreign national male. The suspect was found in possession of multiple illicit substances, including mandrax and cocaine. An undisclosed sum of money, believed to be proceeds of crime, was also confiscated.

The unit subsequently proceeded to a property in Heidedal. A search of this location resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of crystal methamphetamine. An undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to be linked to drug trafficking, was seized. A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene.

Both suspects have been detained and are facing charges of dealing in drugs. Police investigations remain ongoing. The suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future.

The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting gang-related criminal networks and removing illegal substances from communities through sustained, intelligence-driven operations
