Members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad arrested a 29-year-old woman on Saturday, 30 May 2026, following the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a routine vehicle checkpoint operation.
At approximately 19:00, Flying Squad officers conducting a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) intercepted a suspicious vehicle for inspection. During interactions with the occupants, officers observed nervous and suspicious behavior from the passengers. As a precautionary measure, all occupants were requested to exit the vehicle to facilitate a tactical search.
The search resulted in the recovery of one (1) .38 caliber revolver and five (5) live rounds of ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were found in the possession of a 29-year-old female passenger. She was immediately arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
