A coordinated police operation in Diepsloot on 31 May 2026 resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at an estimated R3 million, and the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect.
The intelligence-led raid was carried out by members of Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team, and the West Rand K9 Unit. Officers acted on credible information pointing to two individuals allegedly involved in drug distribution within the area.
Upon searching a identified premises, law enforcement officials discovered a black refuse bag hidden beneath a mattress. Inside the bag, officers found the suspected crystal methamphetamine.
The 35-year-old man who was present at the location was taken into custody on charges of drug possession. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 01 June 2026.
Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner, praised the collaborative effort and reiterated the police service’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics trafficking.
“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” stated Lt Gen Mthombeni.
The successful operation highlights the continued focus of SAPS units on disrupting drug supply chains and enhancing community safety across the West Rand district through targeted, intelligence-based interventions.
