Ga-Rankuwa FCS Unit Secures Conviction in Child Sexual Offences Case

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane District has announced the successful conviction and sentencing of an accused person in a child sexual offences case, following a thorough investigation by the Ga-Rankuwa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

The victim, who was 12 years old at the time of the offences, lived with her biological mother and stepfather between 2018 and 2021. During a school holiday visit to her biological father, she disclosed to her stepmother that she had been subjected to sexual abuse and other forms of ill-treatment by her stepfather.

Following the disclosure, a criminal case was opened and assigned to Warrant Officer Freddy Alfred Maile of the Ga-Rankuwa FCS Unit. During the investigation, electronic devices were seized and subjected to forensic examination. Evidence obtained from these devices formed a critical component of the State’s case and contributed significantly to the successful prosecution.

On 13 May 2026, the accused was found guilty on the following charges:
– Rape
– Sexual Assault
– Crimen Injuria
– Possession of Child Pornography

The court sentenced the accused to five terms of life imprisonment, plus an additional 60 years’ imprisonment.

Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General Samuel Thine, commended Warrant Officer Maile for his professionalism, dedication, and meticulous investigative work.

“The successful prosecution of this matter demonstrates the commitment of SAPS members to ensuring that perpetrators of crimes against women and children are brought to justice,” said Major General Thine. “I commend Warrant Officer Maile for his diligence and unwavering commitment throughout the investigation. His efforts, together with those of the prosecution team and all role players involved, have ensured that justice was served for the victim.”

SAPS reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing cases involving vulnerable groups and utilizing forensic capabilities to strengthen prosecutions in matters of gender-based violence and child protection.
