Serial Rapist Sentenced to Two Life Terms in Bloemfontein Court

A 50-year-old man was sentenced to two concurrent life terms by the Bloemfontein Regional Court after being convicted on two counts of rape. The accused repeatedly sexually assaulted his 20-year-old stepdaughter, violating a position of trust within the family.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Lucky Seooe of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Sgt. Seooe collaborated with National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) prosecutor Ms. Amore Coetzee to prepare the case for trial.

According to court records, the evidence presented established the accused’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt on both charges. The court imposed life imprisonment for each count, ensuring the offender will remain incarcerated indefinitely.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the sentence and reiterated its commitment to prioritizing cases involving violence against women and children. In a statement, SAPS acknowledged the victim’s cooperation throughout the legal process and commended the investigative and prosecutorial teams for their roles in securing the conviction.

The Mangaung FCS Unit handled the matter under its mandate to address gender-based violence and sexual offences. No further details regarding the timeline of the offences or the victim’s identity were disclosed, in accordance with South African law protecting the identities of sexual offence survivors.

The accused has the right to appeal the conviction and sentence through established legal channels.
