Wesbank — A suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Wesbank, located within the Mfuleni policing precinct.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Public Order Police made the arrest while conducting stop-and-search operations on Swartkop Road. The police operations were part of ongoing efforts to curb gang violence in the community.
Officers stopped and searched a man who was roaming the streets and discovered a 9mm pistol along with six rounds of ammunition in his possession. Because the suspect did not have a valid firearm license for the weapon, he was taken into custody on charges of illegal possession.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been finalized.
