EDENVALE — Law enforcement officials have taken Molemo Maarohanye into custody following a violent kidnapping incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale. The 45-year-old broadcaster, widely recognized by his stage name Jub Jub, is facing severe legal consequences after an early morning confrontation that escalated into a shooting.
According to a Gauteng police spokesperson, the sequence of events began on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at roughly 07:30. The victim, a rideshare operator, had completed a trip by dropping a female passenger at a local residence east of Johannesburg. Upon finishing the drop-off, he was intercepted by the suspect, who aggressively accused the motorist of having an affair with his romantic partner.
The confrontation quickly turned violent. Authorities state that the accused forcibly pulled the rideshare operator into the car and blocked his exit. Amidst the ordeal, the suspect allegedly fired a gun toward the victim. Fortunately, the driver managed to break free from the vehicle without sustaining any physical injuries and promptly fled to a nearby police precinct to file a report.
Responding rapidly to the emergency report, officers tracked down and apprehended the 45-year-old media figure in Koeng. He is now formally charged with kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public space. Although the official police bulletin did not explicitly name the accused, sources have confirmed his identity as the prominent television personality.
Detective teams continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the altercation. The accused is scheduled to make his first court appearance before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 15, 2026.
