KURUMAN – Five suspects, aged between 33 and 39, were arrested on Tuesday, 17 June 2026, for the alleged possession of stolen cattle valued at approximately R60,000.
Acting on intelligence-driven information, police traced the suspects to a feeding lot at approximately 18:15. During questioning regarding the five cattle, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their possession of the animals.
This prompted an intensive investigation, leading authorities to summon the lawful owner to the scene. Upon arrival at the feeding lot, the 60-year-old owner positively identified all five cattle as his property.
The suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. In connection with the incident, police also confiscated a single-cab bakkie allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, the Acting District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, commended the police members for their swift response to the intelligence received, noting that their actions prevented a significant loss to the cattle owner.
