POLOKWANE – A 45-year-old male driver was arrested on Friday, 19 June 2026, following the recovery of a stolen Toyota Hilux Legend Edition double cab bakkie valued at R700,000 on the N1 South outside Polokwane.
The recovery was the result of an intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operation conducted by the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit, with support from CAP Specialized, Tracker Connect, the Insurance Crime Bureau, Tshimollo Security and Investigation, and Shadow Secure Security.
Intelligence indicated that the vehicle was being transported from Gauteng Province to Limpopo Province with the intention of being smuggled across the border through the Beitbridge Port of Entry. Acting on this information, police maintained surveillance along the N1 South and intercepted the vehicle near the Shell Ultra City filling station as it traveled at high speed.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the double cab had been reported stolen at the Loate Police Station in the Tshwane area. The driver was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
