Two Arrested for Stock Theft in Qumbu; R30,000 Livestock Recovered

QUMBU — Two men, aged 49 and 50, have been arrested in Qumbu for stock theft following the recovery of livestock valued at approximately R30,000.

The incident occurred on Monday, 22 June 2026, at approximately 01:00, when 21 sheep and two goats were stolen from a kraal in the Nkonkweni locality of Qumbu. Acting on information regarding the stolen animals, Qumbu police traced and apprehended the suspects later that same day in the Tyuma locality at Gungqwane A/A.

All stolen livestock was successfully recovered and returned to the rightful owner. Authorities noted that the identification process was facilitated by the animals’ branding marks.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended the police members involved for their swift response and the successful arrests.

The two suspects are scheduled to appear before the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, on charges of contravening the Stock Theft Act.
