JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG — Major-General Feroz Khan, the suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence, remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing surgery following a violent, targeted shooting in Houghton. The ambush of the senior police official occurred shortly before he was set to testify at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Coordinated Attack in Houghton
Law enforcement and forensic teams have cordoned off the residential area as they comb the scene for evidence. According to witnesses at the location, the attack was a coordinated hit. Sources report that Khan was driving his Suzuki vehicle near his home when a white Mercedes-Benz pulled up. Two men reportedly exited the Mercedes and opened fire, striking Khan multiple times.
While police spokespersons and authorities have yet to release a comprehensive official statement detailing the exact circumstances of the ambush, the scene has been heavily secured as investigators work to piece together the events.
Hospitalization and Strict Silence from Legal Team
Immediately following the hail of gunfire, Khan was transported to Netcare Milpark Hospital, located in close proximity to the crime scene, where medical staff are performing surgery to treat his wounds.
Outside the hospital, Khan’s family and legal representation arrived to monitor the situation. However, they have maintained a strict wall of silence. Family members avoided the press, and his lawyer outright refused to field any questions regarding the general’s condition or the ambush.

The timing of the assassination attempt is highly significant, as Khan was scheduled to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday, July 1. His testimony was expected to be a major focal point of the proceedings.
