Illegal Abattoir Uncovered in Crown Mines Following Joint Surveillance Operation

JOHANNESBURG — An illegal abattoir has been discovered and shut down in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, following an early-morning surveillance operation coordinated by the Gauteng Joint Surveillance Hub.

At approximately 03:00, drone surveillance monitored by the Provincial Operational Command Centre (POCC) in Brixton detected suspicious activity at a local property. Ground response teams were immediately dispatched to the location and confirmed that the establishment was illegally operating as an abattoir.

The scene is currently being processed by investigators from the Gauteng Provincial Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit, alongside specialists from Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management.

Authorities have arrested six illegal immigrants found at the premises. Additionally, the owner of the establishment is slated for arrest on charges of hiring illegal immigrants. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
