Rape Suspect Arrested in Koffiefontein After Fleeing the Scene

KOFFIEFONTEIN — A 23-year-old man from Donkerhoek is scheduled to appear in the Koffiefontein Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on a charge of rape.

The suspect was arrested today, 30 June 2026, at approximately 07:20. His apprehension was carried out with the assistance of local community members and follows a police request for information regarding a sexual assault that occurred three days prior, on 27 June 2026, at roughly 03:30.

The complainant, a resident of Sondela Street in the Mandela Location, reported that she was walking home from the Bloushop Tavern when she was approached by an unknown male. According to the victim’s statement, the suspect asked her to accompany him. Upon her refusal, the man tripped her, dragged her to a nearby hill next to the road, and raped her under a tree.

Following the initial assault, the suspect forced the victim past the Donkerhoek area to a gravel road, where he raped her a second time. He subsequently fled the scene, leaving the victim behind with instructions to go home.

The victim returned to her residence and waited until daylight to formally report the attacks to the police, which initiated the investigation and public appeal for information that ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
