Three Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges Following Hillbrow Protest Shooting

JOHANNESBURG – Three suspects have been arrested following a shooting during a protest in Hillbrow on June 30, 2026, which left two individuals injured, including a 17-year-old teenager.

Authorities allege that the suspects opened fire on protesters who were passing through the street. In response to the shooting, the protesters reportedly retaliated by setting the suspects’ vehicle on fire.

Police apprehended the three suspects and confiscated two licensed firearms believed to have been used in the incident. The seized weapons have been taken into custody for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court shortly to face charges of attempted murder.
