Newborn Boy Recovering in Hospital After Being Found Abandoned in Pietermaritzburg

PIETERMARITZBURG — A newborn baby boy is recovering in a hospital after being found abandoned on the side of a road in Pietermaritzburg today.

At approximately 12:00 PM, the KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service was dispatched to Bombay Road, directly opposite Northbury Secondary School. Local residents walking along the roadway contacted authorities after hearing an infant crying in the grass near the roadside.

Advanced Paramedics arrived on the scene, conducted a clinical evaluation, and took immediate measures to warm the infant and shield him from the elements. Following an on-scene assessment, the baby boy was determined to be in stable condition. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for further pediatric evaluation and continued care.

Local authorities are currently on the scene and have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. Officials noted that the immediate reporting by the community prevented the newborn from enduring prolonged exposure to the elements.
