EASTERN CAPE – A targeted anti-gang patrol in Humansdorp as part of Operation Karabo has culminated in a significant firearm seizure and the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect. This latest intervention highlights the continued commitment of joint security forces to eradicate gang-related crime and the circulation of illegal weapons in the region.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, 12 July 2026, when members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) were actively executing anti-gang patrols throughout the Humansdorp area. During their routine operation, the joint law enforcement team observed two men behaving suspiciously.
As officers moved to intercept the individuals, both attempted to escape on foot. A swift pursuit ensued, leading the officers to corner one of the men inside a nearby shack. A thorough search of the structure subsequently uncovered an unlicensed firearm along with live ammunition hidden on the premises.
The 27-year-old individual was immediately taken into custody and arrested on the spot for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The illegal items were officially confiscated as evidence to prevent further danger to the public.
Addressing the outcome of the raid, a SAPS spokesperson emphasized that such proactive, coordinated operations between SAPS and the SANDF are vital for neutralizing gang threats and ensuring the long-term safety of Humansdorp residents. The spokesperson reiterated that law enforcement will not tolerate the illegal possession of weapons in the community.
The detained suspect remains in police custody and is slated to make his first formal appearance at the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
