FREE STATE – A significant Bloemfontein drug arrest was executed on Monday, 13 July 2026, after the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit intercepted a suspicious narcotics transaction near the Bastion Street long-distance taxi rank. The tactical foot patrol resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of crystal meth and the immediate apprehension of two individuals.
According to a spokesperson for the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit, officers initially observed two African males engaging in a suspicious exchange in the taxi rank area. Law enforcement personnel tactically trailed and subsequently accosted the first individual. A search of the 24-year-old male yielded two small, transparent zip-lock bags containing suspected crystal meth.
Investigators then shifted their focus to the alleged seller, pursuing him into a nearby commercial store where they requested authorization to search the premises. During the sweep, an observant officer identified a dislodged tile situated behind the toilet seat. Removing the tile exposed a concealed black plastic bag. Inside, authorities discovered a small weighing scale, a scoop, a cutting agent, 53 small zip-lock packets of crystal meth, and an additional 454 grams of methamphetamine.
The second suspect, identified as a 44-year-old foreign national, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Following the meticulous processing of the crime scene, investigators formally opened two separate cases of drug possession at the Parkweg Police Station.
A spokesperson for the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit confirmed that both detainees are scheduled to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future to face formal charges related to the seizure.
