FREE STATE – A 38-year-old husband has been arrested in Grasslands Three, Bloemfontein, for the alleged murder of his wife, marking a swift intervention by local authorities following a tragic domestic incident.

The fatal event transpired on the evening of Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at approximately 19:10. Bloemspruit police were dispatched to a residential address after receiving urgent reports of a potential homicide. The initial discovery was made by a tenant living on the same property, who returned home to find the 38-year-old suspect heavily intoxicated and asleep outdoors.

Concerned by the situation, the tenant entered the primary residence and uncovered a grim scene: the 38-year-old woman was found lying on a bed beneath blankets, with noticeable blood around her mouth. The tenant promptly contacted both Emergency Medical Services and law enforcement.

First responders pronounced the woman deceased at the location. Early investigative findings indicated visible marks on the victim’s neck, pointing toward potential strangulation. Authorities also confirmed that the couple’s children were fortunately away on a holiday when the tragedy occurred, sparing them from the immediate aftermath.

The intoxicated husband was taken into custody immediately at the property and formally charged with murder. Addressing the case, a Bloemspruit police spokesperson issued a strong condemnation of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), emphasizing that a comprehensive and meticulous investigation is actively underway to guarantee accountability and justice for the victim.
