NORTHERN CAPE – A major dagga seizure in Colesberg has resulted in the confiscation of 379.3 kilograms of suspected drugs valued at more than R7,586,000, following a joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Provincial Traffic officials on the N1 highway.
At approximately 13:50 on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, Provincial Traffic officials intercepted a white Foton truck transporting mobile toilets at the Weigh Bridge on the N1. The stop was executed following intelligence indicating the vehicle was being utilized to conceal illicit substances. During the initial inspection, officials detected a potent odor of dagga emanating from one of the mobile toilets, which led to the discovery of a large bag inside.
Law enforcement officers from the Colesberg SAPS were immediately summoned to the scene. A comprehensive search of the vehicle revealed seven bulk bags, securely wrapped in sellotape, containing the suspected dagga. The 37-year-old foreign national driving the vehicle was subsequently arrested by Colesberg SAPS and formally charged with dealing in dagga. Both the truck and its trailer have been confiscated as evidence.
The accused is scheduled to make an imminent appearance in the Colesberg Magistrates’ Court to face the charges.
