KWAZULU-NATAL — Law enforcement officials from the KZN Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit have executed a targeted operation in Durban, resulting in the arrest of a suspected narcotics trafficker and the seizure of illicit drugs with a combined street value of R187,800. The bust highlights ongoing regional efforts to dismantle local drug distribution networks and remove harmful substances from communities.
On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, operatives apprehended a 32-year-old Nigerian national inside a residential flat situated in Durban’s Point area. During the initial search of the premises, authorities recovered 11 pockets of cocaine powder, carrying an estimated street value of R33,000.
Following the primary apprehension, investigators expanded their search to the broader building. This comprehensive sweep yielded an additional abandoned cache of illegal substances. The secondary recovery included 830 Ecstasy tablets, an undisclosed quantity of Crystal Meth, and 300 grams of Methcathinone, bringing the secondary street value estimate to R154,800.
A spokesperson for the KZN Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit confirmed the operational details, noting that the apprehended individual is scheduled to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026 to face formal charges.
