KWAZULU-NATAL — An intelligence-led R2 million dagga seizure along the Pongola River has culminated in the arrest of a 33-year-old man, dealing a significant blow to illicit trafficking operations in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to a police spokesperson, law enforcement units were alerted to the activities of four individuals transporting large quantities of narcotics. The group was reportedly observed moving the contraband and hiding it within dense, bushy terrain adjacent to the Pongola River.
Deploying rapidly on this actionable intelligence, officers arrived at the specified coordinates to investigate the claims. A systematic search of the vegetation resulted in the discovery and confiscation of 19 bales of compressed dagga. A police spokesperson confirmed that the seized illicit haul carries an estimated street value of R2 million.
While one 33-year-old suspect was successfully taken into custody in connection with the bust, authorities have launched an active manhunt to locate and apprehend the remaining three individuals implicated in the operation.
The apprehended individual is scheduled to appear before the Magudu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026, to face formal charges related to dealing in dagga. Investigators continue to follow all leads to dismantle the broader supply chain associated with this seizure.
