WESTERN CAPE – Authorities in the Garden Route have successfully apprehended a George burglary suspect and recovered a stolen firearm following a targeted operation in Herold. The 37-year-old individual is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear before the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.
The investigative breakthrough occurred on Friday, 24 July 2026, when a joint response team comprising George police officers, the Outeniqua K9 Unit, and members of the Noll’s Halt Farm Watch mobilized to investigate a residential break-in. The initial incident was reported earlier in the week at a property located in De Vlugt, Herold, just outside of George.
Through diligent investigative work, officers located a stolen safe hidden within dense bushland in close proximity to the targeted premises. Upon securing the container, law enforcement successfully retrieved the stolen firearm alongside an undisclosed sum of cash.
Investigators have positively connected the 37-year-old man to the crime scene. He remains detained in custody and will answer to formal allegations, including housebreaking, theft, and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Garden Route District police management officially praised the collaborative efforts of all tactical units and civilian volunteers involved in the operation.
