Following the damaging of a third commercial vessel by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump is actively evaluating further military responses to halt the escalating maritime aggression.
According to alerts from United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the latest attack targeted a vessel approximately 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman. Citing the ship’s company security officer, reports indicate that an unidentified projectile struck the tanker’s engine room, rendering the ship unable to maneuver. Officials confirmed there have been no casualties or environmental hazards, and Oman’s Coast Guard has been formally notified to lead the ongoing investigation.
Compounding maritime security concerns, UKMTO issued a separate advisory regarding a secondary incident located 21 nautical miles northeast of Oman. In this instance, a ship’s master reported witnessing a massive splash and a nearby explosion in close proximity to their vessel. Although no structural damage was sustained by that second ship, maritime authorities are urging all commercial traffic to navigate the region with extreme caution and immediately report any suspicious behavior.
These developments follow an announcement on Friday from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which claimed responsibility for striking two separate tankers attempting to navigate the strategic waterway. This sequence of events marks the third commercial ship targeted in recent days, raising global alarms over the safety of critical shipping corridors.
In response to the mounting crisis, the White House has signaled that President Trump is weighing additional strikes against Iran. Addressing the situation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the United States had previously extended a memorandum of understanding to Tehran.
