EASTERN CAPE — An intensive manhunt is underway in the Eastern Cape following a Kwanobuhle triple murder that has left the Peace Village community in shock. Local law enforcement is currently searching for the suspects responsible for the deaths of three young men who were found with fatal gunshot wounds.
The grim scene was uncovered on the morning of 3 August 2026, shortly after police received an alert regarding the bodies located in bushes opposite Thuthula Street. Officers arrived at the location at approximately 09:35 to secure the area and begin their initial assessment.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana confirmed that the victims were identified as 17-year-old Alwaba Toba, 20-year-old Ayabonga Jantjie, and 22-year-old Bonginkosi Matunbu. Relatives of the deceased were present at the scene to formally confirm the identities of their loved ones.
Authorities have officially opened a murder docket comprising three counts at the SAPS Kwanobuhle station. Due to the severity of the crime, the Serious and Violent Crime Investigation (SVCI) Unit has assumed responsibility for the case. While the investigation is ongoing, police have not yet determined a motive for the killings, and the suspects remain at large.
