The Odyssey continues as South African Mint unveils the 2026 Martial Eagle collection

Johannesburg, 22 July 2026 – A new chapter takes flight as the South African Mint introduces the 2026 Martial Eagle, the second release in its acclaimed Odyssey of the Sky seven-coin series.

Building on the inaugural release, the series continues its journey through Africa’s skies by honouring one of the continent’s most powerful birds of prey. Renowned for its commanding presence, exceptional eyesight and effortless flight across vast landscapes, the martial eagle takes centre stage in a collection that celebrates the splendour of African wildlife and the artistry of South African minting.

This edition explores the martial eagle as both a biological apex and a symbol of craft mastery. The concept frames the coin as a meeting point between nature’s design and human artistry, where the bird’s precision, poise and proportion inform every stage of the Mint’s creative process.

“The Odyssey of the Sky is more than a coin series; it is a celebration of Africa’s extraordinary birdlife and the artistry that brings these stories to life through world-class minting,” said Richard Collocott, Managing Director at the South African Mint.

Struck in 24 ct gold and fine silver, the collection features meticulously crafted designs inspired by the martial eagle’s strength and character. Continuing the series’ distinctive visual identity, each coin incorporates a signature African pattern that symbolises the enduring connection between humanity and nature.

With strictly limited mintages across the range, the 2026 Martial Eagle collection marks the next sought-after chapter in The Odyssey of the Sky. The release is complemented by two exclusive sets that pair an Odyssey of the Sky coin with South Africa’s iconic Krugerrand, distinguished by a martial eagle privy mark. Available only as part of these limited-edition sets, the privy-marked Krugerrands are exclusive to this release, making them a distinctive addition to the series.

“With the Martial Eagle, we continue the journey, offering collectors another beautifully crafted chapter in a series that is fast becoming one of our most distinctive modern collections,” Collocott continued.
As The Odyssey of the Sky unfolds over seven annual releases, each coin tells the story of an extraordinary bird while reflecting the South African Mint’s commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and design excellence.
