LIMPOPO — The recent Seshego child abuse arrest of a 74-year-old grandfather has sparked a specialized investigation after he allegedly preyed on two young girls in his own household. Authorities report that the elderly suspect, who shared a home with the victims, is accused of sexually assaulting the minors, aged 5 and 8, on separate occasions earlier this year.
Following the formal reporting of the crimes, detectives moved swiftly to take the suspect into custody. He was apprehended at his residence on the evening of Monday, August 3, 2026, concluding the initial phase of the local police probe.
Given the severe and sensitive nature of the allegations involving minors, the primary case docket was immediately handed over to the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. This specialized task force is now leading the ongoing investigations to build a comprehensive case against the accused.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers issued a stern public rebuke regarding the egregious breach of trust within the family home.
“It is deeply disturbing that a person entrusted with the care and protection of a child could instead become the source of their harm,” Lt. Gen. Scheepers stated. He emphasized the department’s unwavering resolve to see the case through to the end, noting, “We will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated, for children and family to get justice. SAPS Limpopo remains committed to protecting our children and will not relent in our fight against crimes targeting the most vulnerable members of our society.”
As detectives continue their active probe into the circumstances surrounding the household, the judicial process is already underway. The accused is slated to make his first appearance before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, August 6, 2026, where he will formally answer to the charges of rape.
