LIMPOPO — A violent confrontation over campus access has resulted in criminal proceedings, as nine students appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 August 2026, to answer for an alleged high school assault. The accused, ranging in age from 15 to 19, stand charged with physically attacking a security guard in Boyne after the officer refused them entry to the grounds.
The Mountain View Altercation
Prosecutors outlined that the incident took place on Monday, 03 August 2026, at a secondary school located in Mountain View, Boyne. According to court documents, a 45-year-old security officer was confronted by the group of learners when they were denied access to the premises. The situation quickly deteriorated, leading to formal dockets of common assault and crimen injuria—a legal term referring to the intentional impairment of another person’s dignity or reputation.
Adult Suspects Granted Free Bail
The court processed the nine individuals in two separate groups based on their legal age. Three of the suspects are classified as adults: 19-year-old Paul Mathipa, 18-year-old Solomon Mathipa, and 19-year-old Goitsemang Kokela. The magistrate granted the trio free bail. They are scheduled to return to the docket on 21 August 2026, a delay intended to give them adequate time to secure legal representation.
Minors Remanded to Parental Care
The remaining six accused are minors between the ages of 15 and 17. In alignment with juvenile justice protocols, the court did not remand them to a detention facility. Instead, the teenagers were released directly into the custody of their parents or legal guardians. This younger cohort is slated for their next court appearance slightly sooner, on 12 August 2026.
