LIMPOPO — Following a decisive Motetema narcotics operation, 37-year-old Eric Matebane has appeared before the Groblersdal District Court on charges of drug possession and dealing. The arrest, which stemmed from a targeted raid in the Leeuwfontein area of the Sekhukhune District, resulted in the confiscation of illicit substances and has temporarily dismantled a local distribution point.
According to updates provided by Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba and unit spokesperson Captain Moss Maluleke, the successful bust unfolded after authorities received actionable intelligence regarding a suspect actively selling narcotics in the community. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation’s Narcotics Unit launched a disruptive intervention on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 18:00.
Upon arriving at the targeted residential address in Leeuwfontein, operatives discovered Matebane standing near the property’s gate. After formally identifying themselves, law enforcement officers proceeded to search the premises, which included a thorough sweep of the suspect’s personal room.
During the search, authorities located a white plastic container inside Matebane’s pocket containing 20 transparent packets of crystal methamphetamine. Furthermore, a black plastic bag resting on a bed’s headboard yielded an additional five transparent packets holding brown packets of heroin.
The confiscated narcotics carry an estimated street value of R7,000. Following his initial court appearance on Friday, August 7, 2026, the matter was officially postponed to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to allow detectives time for further police investigations. Matebane was denied release and remains behind bars in police custody while the docket is finalized.
