Evander Narcotics Raid: Hawks Seize Crystal Meth and Heroin in Mpumalanga Drug Bust

Coordinated police action on Cordoba Street results in the apprehension of a foreign national and the confiscation of high-value illicit substances.

MPUMALANGA — A meticulously planned Evander narcotics raid has led to the apprehension of a 31-year-old foreign national, marking the latest victory for the Hawks in their ongoing provincial crackdowns on illegal substance distribution. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) launched the early-morning, intelligence-driven sweep on Friday, August 7, 2026, targeting a specific residential property linked to local trafficking.

The tactical intervention was triggered by actionable intelligence received a day prior, on August 6, 2026, pointing to suspected drug operations at a home on Cordoba Street. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a joint task force mobilized at dawn. The complex operation brought together several specialized divisions, including the Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI), the Secunda K9 Unit, the Serious Investigations and Pursuit and Recovery Unit (SIPRU), and Secunda Crime Intelligence.

Officers descended upon the targeted residence at approximately 06:00, locating the suspect inside the home. A subsequent search of the premises yielded a black plastic bag packed with contraband. Investigators recovered 31 grams of crystal methamphetamine divided into three separate packets, alongside two packets of heroin weighing roughly 46 grams.

Authorities placed the estimated street value of the confiscated crystal meth and heroin at R14,650. Additionally, the team confiscated R1,850 in suspected drug proceeds and three mobile phones believed to be tied to the illicit trade. In total, the combined value of the seized exhibits sits at an estimated R20,000.

Following the successful Evander narcotics raid, the suspect was booked and detained at the local Evander Police Station. He is slated to face formal charges of drug dealing when he appears before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
