WESTERN CAPE — Law enforcement officials have confirmed multiple Langa mass shooting arrests following a targeted weekend sweep designed to remove dangerous weapons and illicit narcotics from the community. The intelligence-led crackdown, executed on Sunday, 09 August 2026, was launched as a direct tactical response to a deadly tragedy that unfolded just hours prior.
Spokespersons representing the Western Cape POCC, the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods policing team explained that the multi-unit operation was triggered by a horrific incident on the night of 08 August 2026. A mass shooting on Winnie Mandela Street in Phase 3 resulted in the deaths of five individuals. Acting on immediate, actionable tips in the wake of the violence, officers descended upon a residence on the very same street, detaining a 24-year-old man. A search of his vehicle’s boot yielded six rounds of ammunition and a black pair of gloves.
The investigation quickly expanded when the 24-year-old directed authorities to a hidden stash in the Sanitizer informal settlement, Zone 30. Police spokespersons noted that officers uncovered a concealed 9mm firearm with its serial number intentionally removed, eight additional rounds of ammunition, and a pair of white gloves. He was promptly arrested on charges of possessing a prohibited firearm and illegal ammunition.
The coordinated sweep then shifted focus to the Slovo Informal settlement. There, a 41-year-old man was taken into custody after being found with an undisclosed amount of cash, mandrax tablets, and ecstasy tablets.
Both individuals are now facing serious charges as detectives continue to piece together the broader criminal networks operating in the area. Spokespersons confirmed that the duo will make their initial appearance before the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
