GAUTENG — A comprehensive Ekangala school search aimed at protecting students has uncovered a troubling cache of dangerous weapons and illicit alcohol, sparking a broader neighborhood investigation by local authorities. The targeted safety sweep highlights the ongoing battle to keep educational facilities in the Tshwane District free from hazardous contraband.
On Friday, 8 August 2026, the South African Police Service (SAPS) joined forces with the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Ekangala Patrollers, and the Department of Community Safety to sweep the School of Specialisation. The multi-agency task force was deployed to root out illegal drugs, lethal weapons, and any prohibited items endangering the well-being of learners and staff.
The physical inspection of the campus yielded immediate results. Officers seized an array of dangerous weapons alongside cigarettes and multiple miniature bottles of vodka hidden within the school environment.
Tracing the origin of the illicit spirits, investigators followed intelligence tips pointing to a local supply chain. This trail led law enforcement to a specific residential property suspected of functioning as an illegal liquor outlet.
Upon searching the home, police interviewed an elderly resident who identified herself as the mother of the prime suspect. She denied any knowledge of her son’s bootlegging activities and confirmed he was away from the premises during the raid.
