Malmesbury Teen Arrested for Ties to International ‘764’ Child Exploitation Network

Joint operation by SAPS and US agencies leads to the seizure of devices containing explicit abuse material and the identification of multiple victims in the Western Cape.

WESTERN CAPE – A Malmesbury teen has been arrested for alleged ties to the international ‘764’ child exploitation network, following a coordinated raid by South African and United States law enforcement. The 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the Western Cape on Monday, 17 August 2026, facing serious allegations related to the accessing, possession, facilitation, and downloading of child sexual abuse material.

The breakthrough occurred after the South African Police Service (SAPS) National Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Team acted on critical intelligence provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Embassy, and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This data flagged a South African-based target connected to “764,” a notorious global online extremist network. Authorities describe the “764” syndicate as highly violent, known for coercing, blackmailing, and targeting minors for online sexual abuse, alongside horrific acts of animal torture and murder.

Tracing the digital footprint to a residential address in Malmesbury, investigators moved in swiftly. The tactical operation was spearheaded by the National SECI Team, with crucial on-the-ground support from the SAPS Head Office Occult Unit, the Paarl Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the Paarl K9 Unit, and the Western Cape Crime Scene Investigation Unit. International partners, including agents from the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), were also present to assist during the raid.

During the arrest, authorities conducted an initial on-site inspection of the suspect’s electronic devices, discovering explicit videos and images depicting both child sexual abuse and animal mutilation. These devices have been secured for in-depth forensic examination to map the complete scope of the alleged criminal activity. Investigators also confirmed that several child victims have already been identified through the gathered evidence.

The 16-year-old is scheduled to appear before the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026. Law enforcement officials noted that the investigation remains highly active, with detectives currently exploring the possibility of appending additional charges related to money laundering and fraud as they follow the financial and digital trails associated with the network.
