Polokwane Drug Bust: 40-Year-Old Nigerian National Faces Court for Drug Dealing and Possession

Limpopo Anti-Gang Units Intercept R20,000 Worth of Illicit Substances Following Vehicular Pursuit on the R37

LIMPOPO – A 40-year-old Nigerian national is scheduled to stand trial in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, on charges of drug dealing and possession. This court appearance follows a successful law enforcement interdiction in Polokwane, resulting in the seizure of illicit narcotics and the suspect’s immediate detention.

The apprehension took place on Monday, 17 August 2026, as part of a strategic intervention executed by the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics, Anti-Gang Unit, and the Organised Crime Unit. Officers were acting on specific intelligence that identified a white Kia Picanto being utilized for narcotics distribution within the city limits.

Law enforcement officials spotted the suspect vehicle traveling along the R101 route. Upon being monitored, the driver accelerated, initiating a pursuit that extended to the R37 road. In an attempt to evade capture, the individual abandoned the car and tried to escape on foot, but was swiftly cornered and arrested by the responding officers.

A thorough inspection of the deserted vehicle uncovered concealed quantities of CAT and ROCK drugs. Authorities have placed the estimated street value of the confiscated contraband at R20,000.

Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, commended the tactical operation and the successful confiscation of the narcotics. He emphasized that the police force will maintain its relentless campaign to disrupt the illicit drug trade and ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable and brought before the courts.
