WESTERN CAPE – Operation Lockdown III officials have executed a successful Hanover Park firearm seizure and arrest following an intelligence-driven intervention in the Downwood neighborhood. The targeted operation successfully removed an illegal weapon from the streets and placed the suspect in police custody.

On Monday, 17 August 2026, tactical units observed a 25-year-old male exhibiting suspicious behavior while standing in front of a residential property in Downwood, Hanover Park. Acting on these specific observations, officers conducted a lawful search of the individual.

The search revealed a prohibited firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition concealed in the suspect’s pockets. The immediate confiscation of the weapon neutralized a direct threat to local community safety.

Following the discovery, the 25-year-old was detained by authorities. Law enforcement representatives confirmed that the individual remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once the formal charging process is finalized.
