LIMPOPO – A Seshego woman has been arrested for attempted police bribery in Mankweng after allegedly trying to pay a Polokwane Public Order Policing (POPS) officer R4 000 in cash to secure her husband’s freedom.
The incident unfolded at the Mankweng Community Service Centre (CSC) on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at approximately 21:30. A POPS Constable, who was occupied with compiling a docket at the facility, was approached by the 53-year-old suspect, a resident of Zone 1 Extension in Seshego.
The woman reportedly proposed the R4 000 cash payment to facilitate the immediate release of her husband, who was being held in police custody on charges related to dealing in dagga. The officer firmly refused to solicit, request, or accept the funds, explicitly cautioning the woman that her actions constituted a criminal offense.
Undeterred by the official warning, the suspect allegedly pulled the banknotes from her pocket and forcibly shoved the cash into the Constable’s hands. In direct response to this escalation, the officer promptly placed the woman under arrest for bribery.
The 53-year-old suspect is scheduled to stand before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August 2026, to answer to the formal charge of bribing a police member.
Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, publicly praised the Constable’s unwavering integrity and professionalism. He highlighted the officer’s refusal to be compromised and his steadfast commitment to upholding the law.
Authorities have confirmed that police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
