Nazeed Pienaar Sentenced to 10 Years Imprisonment for Rape in Pella

NORTHERN CAPE – A Pella resident, Nazeed Pienaar, also known as “China”, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for rape by the Pofadder Regional Court. The conviction concludes a case stemming from a March 2025 incident, drawing official commendation from local law enforcement for the diligent investigative work that secured the verdict.

The crime occurred on 29 March 2025 at approximately 02:50. A 46-year-old female victim was allegedly raped at her residence in Pella while she was sleeping on the veranda.

Constable Thabang Mokgethe of the Pofadder Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, who was on standby at the time, responded swiftly to the complaint and initiated the necessary investigative processes. Pienaar was arrested on 30 March 2025 and subsequently released on bail on 07 April 2025.

Through a thorough and diligent investigation conducted by Detective Constable Mokgethe, sufficient evidence was presented before the court. This led to the accused being found guilty of rape on 12 June 2026, culminating in the 10-year prison sentence formally handed down on 09 September 2026.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed several supplementary penalties. Pienaar was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of the Firearms Control Act. Furthermore, his name was ordered to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders, and he was legally declared unfit to work with children.

The Acting District Commissioner of Namakwa, Colonel Moses Lekgwati, commended Detective Constable Mokgethe for his commitment, professionalism, and meticulous investigative work, noting that these efforts ultimately contributed to securing the conviction and sentence.
