WESTERN CAPE — Western Cape Police have confiscated illicit drugs with an estimated street value of R5.85 million following a swift, intelligence-driven operation on the N1 highway in Beaufort West. This significant bust targeted a major consignment of narcotics, reinforcing law enforcement’s ongoing commitment to dismantling drug distribution networks in the region.
On Thursday, 10 September 2026, at approximately 22:40, members of the Western Cape Organised Crime Investigations, Crime Intelligence, and the Beaufort West Police intercepted a vehicle traveling on the N1 highway. Following a coordinated stop, authorities conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and uncovered a substantial quantity of illicit substances.
During the seizure, police confiscated 57,000 Mandrax tablets and 5 kilograms of cocaine. The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man, was immediately arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.
The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 September 2026.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi, commended the collaborative and decisive efforts of the involved police units.
