MPUMALANGA – Two suspects have been arrested in Elukwatini for the possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, following a targeted intelligence-led operation by the Gert Sibande Highway Patrol Team. The apprehension centers on a stripped royal blue Volkswagen Golf 5 that was originally reported stolen in Gauteng.
On Wednesday, 09 September 2026, at approximately 12:30, police members acted on intelligence regarding a suspected stolen vehicle in the Elukwatini area. Officers followed up on the lead at Nhlazatshe No. 6, where they discovered the stripped royal blue Volkswagen Golf 5. Official records confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Dawn Park, Gauteng, during August 2026.
During the operation, two suspects, aged 29 and 40, were apprehended and formally charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. Preliminary investigations conducted by police representatives revealed that one of the suspects also contravened the Immigration Act of South Africa due to a lack of proper documentation to be in the country. An additional charge was subsequently added to his docket.
All recovered vehicle parts were confiscated by authorities to facilitate further investigation.
The two suspects, identified as 40-year-old Sibusiso Ntuli and 29-year-old Simphiwe Mandulo Mabuza, appeared at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court. The case was officially postponed to 17 September 2026 to allow for a formal bail application.
