MPUMALANGA – Two foreign nationals were arrested in Morgenzon, Mpumalanga, following the seizure of a dagga haul with an estimated street value of R1 million. The apprehensions occurred during a targeted crime-combating operation conducted jointly by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Secunda Flying Squad on the R39 Road.
On Thursday, 10 September 2026, at approximately 08:30, law enforcement officers patrolling the Morgenzon policing precinct intercepted a white Volkswagen Golf bearing Mpumalanga registration plates. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 21 bags containing approximately 180 kilograms of dagga.
The two suspects, aged 30 and 40, were taken into custody at the scene. Preliminary investigations confirmed their status as foreign nationals. SAPS is currently collaborating with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to verify their legal immigration status within the country. The confiscated dagga has been secured as evidence for further investigative procedures.
The suspects are scheduled to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court in due course to face formal charges of dealing in dagga.
Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the participating officers for their effective teamwork and dedication. Modise issued a stern warning to criminal elements, affirming that provincial law enforcement will not rest until Mpumalanga is established as a crime-free province.
