GAUTENG — Three suspects were arrested for alleged illegal mining in De Deur after members of the Sedibeng Flying Squad executed a targeted operation in the Doornkuil area.
On Friday, 11 September 2026, at approximately 20:00, police officials acted on credible information regarding suspected illicit mining activities at a local plot. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered three men in possession of specialized mining equipment. The confiscated items included six phenduka machines and multiple bags containing material believed to have been illegally extracted from the mine.
The apprehended individuals comprise two Mozambican nationals and one South African national. All three suspects were taken into custody at the scene, and the illicit equipment, alongside the suspected mining material, was officially seized by authorities.
A formal case of illegal mining has been registered at the De Deur South African Police Service (SAPS) station. Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing as authorities continue to monitor and combat illicit mining operations in the region.
