MPUMALANGA – Three suspects have been arrested and two firearms recovered following a vehicle hijacking incident in Calcutta, according to the Police Illicit Mining Team. The investigation led authorities to the Bushbuckridge area, where they successfully traced and reclaimed a white Nissan NP200 that was reported hijacked on September 9, 2026.
A spokesperson for the Police Illicit Mining Team confirmed that the intelligence-led operation culminated in the apprehension of all three individuals in the Bushbuckridge jurisdiction. During the search and arrest procedure, law enforcement officers recovered the stolen white Nissan NP200. Additionally, a Toyota bakkie was seized at the scene, as it is suspected to have been utilized by the suspects during the commission of the hijacking.
The operation also yielded the recovery of two firearms, further linking the suspects to illegal weapon possession.
The three suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court in the near future. They will face formal charges related to the incident, including possession of a suspected hijacked vehicle, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Authorities have commended the swift action of the Illicit Mining Team in tracing the vehicle and neutralizing the threat posed by the unlicensed firearms. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare the docket for the upcoming court proceedings.
