EKURHULENI, Gauteng — South African police are intensifying their hunt after an eighth woman was found dead in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, prompting authorities to assemble a specialist task team and offer a 400,000-rand reward for information leading to an arrest.
The latest death was reported in KwaThema, adding to a disturbing series of killings that have raised significant fears among women in the region. In response, police have assembled a specialist task team and are planning to intensify operations, which include a targeted lockdown on Kempton Park and surrounding areas, as investigators work diligently to establish whether the cases are connected.
Addressing the ongoing probe, SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe emphasized that authorities have not yet established that all eight deaths are linked. The spokespersons strongly urged the public to avoid speculations while the official investigations continue, noting that premature conclusions could hinder the specialist task team’s efforts.
As the investigation continues, police are actively appealing for any information that could assist the probe. Authorities have also issued a stark safety warning, advising women to avoid working or exercising alone, particularly in isolated areas. To expedite justice, a 400,000-rand reward remains on offer for any credible information that could lead to an arrest in connection with these tragic deaths.
